Biggest Game Changer Post LASIK: Freedom From Glasses

Dylan’s biggest reason to get LASIK was wanting freedom from glasses.

He could not do contact lenses because he hated touching his eyes, so he wore glasses on the daily. Dylan is 20 and plays sports and glasses constantly got in the way of that! From basketball to diving and swimming, Dylan told us he really needed that freedom and did not want to have to get prescription goggles.

So, at his routine eye exam to get prescription updated for his glasses, Dylan told Dr. Dipak Kalani, his optometrist at Vision Source Shadow Creek in Pearland that he was interested in getting LASIK and getting rid of his glasses.

Dr. Kalani shared that he worked with Dr. Stephen Slade MD at Slade & Baker Vision in Houston.  He made an appointment for a LASIK evaluation and they ran all sorts of tests including a topography to map his cornea. Dylan found out at this appointment that his glasses prescription was good at about -1.5 in his right eye and -1.0 in his left with a very small astigmatism that would not affect his outcomes.

We asked him how he felt the day of surgery and he said: “I was a little nervous because I thought I would feel it. It turns out you feel a little pressure but very bearable and no pain.”  He said the total surgery time was about 20 minutes and he felt everything went pretty quickly after he took the valium. He was conscious and talking to the LASIK team and Dr. Slade when they instructed him to look at lights. “There is suction and they use numbing drops while the eye is held open but you really don’t feel much other than a tiny bit of pressure.”

Post LASIK surgery Dylan said he slept on the car ride home, then got home and slept a 3-hour nap. He put eye drops in and could see everything was clear. “When I woke up, I could see the TV clearly. I remember I could read everything, and Jeopardy was on.”

At his one-day post op at Dr. Kalani’s office, Dylan was better than 20/20 -he was 20/15!

We asked Dylan if he could share one thing with anyone out there that was thinking about having LASIK but on the fence and he said “the biggest game changer was waking up and not having to put glasses on anymore. If you are on the fence I would say definitely, do it, no matter what the fears are, at the end of the day, you’re in the best professional hands if you choose the right surgeon. For me, it was a great life choice.”

We are so appreciative that Dylan took the time to share his experience with us and are so happy for his new glasses-free vision. Call us today for a visit with Dr. Kalani at Vision Source Shadow Creek and to see if you are a LASIK candidate so you can become glasses or contact lens free this year!
